Welcome to the playground

When my friend and science journalist colleague Simone Pengue said "Hey, why don't we launch a magazine?", I thought he was joking. Far from it: a couple of months later I found myself co-founder and co-editor-in-chef of the "Playground Magazine".

The idea is simple: we wanted to create a platform for young (not necessarily biologically speaking) aspiring science journalists to publish their first articles. For the more visual ones, their first illustrations. Get some feedback from people that have been doing this for a while and get their work out there for others to discover.
Because we well remember those times when we were desperately looking to create a "portfolio" - not knowing whom to contact, where to start and what the heck everybody was talking about when they rambled on about pitching and do's-and-dont's. So that's where we jumped in.
With a first issue published in December 2025 through the Swiss Association for Science Journalism (SASJ), our crazy idea became a reality. And, as a convenient collateral, we - that is Simone Pengue, Marion De Vevey and myself - got promoted to the job of editors-in-chef. Which, quite frankly, is also a brilliant learning experience for us.
Since then, we are working to make the magazine permanent. Everyone is welcome to send us their texts, pitch ideas, or just reach out to hear more about what's possible on the playground. Editions will come out whenever we have enough material - which for now doesn't seem to be an issue.
And one more thing: it may seem that articles are in random languages. Well, not so random: embracing the multilingualism of Switzerland, we welcome productions in English, French, German, and Italian. Proofread, edited and published in the original language.
Nothing else to do for me here than wish you: Bonne lecture! And tell others about it. We're excited to spread the word.
